Chris Sawyer began making clay sculpture at an early age. His Bay Area high school emphasized mechanical and industrial arts which further developed his manual skills. After college he took studio courses in sculpture at the Academy of Art in San Francisco.

Upon retiring from careers in furniture manufacturing and later custom home building, he has now returned to his first love - sculpture. His earlier mediums include woodcarving, fabricated steel, and cast bronze but he now devotes himself exclusively to stone carving. His abstract imagery is derived from animals and forms found in nature, primarily on the Central Coast. He lives and works in Carmel Valley.

Chris has been a member of the Carmel Art Association since 2013.  His juried shows include Museum of Monterey, Pajaro Valley Arts Council, Monterey Museum of Art, Pacific Art League (Palo Alto), the Ruth Bancroft Sculpture Garden (Walnut Creek), the Greater Bay Area Open (Los Gatos) and the Commonwealth Club (San Francisco).
